Inaugural Smith & Wesson IDPA National Back Up Gun Match

The shooting sports industry is seeing a huge influx of new firearm owners. Many of them are looking for ways to become proficient in their use and as a result, IDPA membership is growing at a record pace. It?s time to hold a match with the firearms that we are actually carrying. ?The concept is simple. Although most of us compete with full size service type handguns, the question remains, what do we carry on a daily basis? For most of us that role is filled by a smaller more compact easier to conceal firearm with a lower capacity than what we compete with. Now before you jump up and say “NO I really do carry XYZ for CCW”, that?s not the point. The idea for the “back up gun” nationals is to showcase your capabilities with a firearm more conducive to a deep concealment or CCW role?.
