CSO Renewal Clarification
CSOs wishing to renew their status cannot update their CSO status by sitting through an SO class. If someone’s CSO status has expired by more than 365 days, they can renew their SO status (not their CSO status) by sitting through the SO class. All CSOs must fill out the application per the process outlined in January 2020, and take the online exam every two years to recertify as a CSO.
The exam for that position is much more challenging than the SO exam and cannot be replicated by attending the classroom SO instruction. If you have any questions about the process, please don’t hesitate to ask your AC for clarification.
