RACINE IDPA ? February 1st Classifier The next Racine IDPA match is coming up this Saturday, February 1st, 2014. The match is being held indoors at Shooters’ Sport Center in Racine. Directions can be found on our web site at http://www.racineidpa.com. Please keep in mind that you must be a current member of national IDPA in order to attend this match. Set up and range preparation will start at 6:00PM. Registration will begin at 6:30PM. The Safety Briefing will be at 7:15PM, and shooting will start immediately after. The S.O.?s and other staff will be shooting the Classifier prior to non-staff Shooters. You MUST attend the safety meeting to be able to shoot. If you arrive late and miss the safety meeting you will not be able to shoot. Also, eye and ear protection are required for all Shooters and any observers out on the range. Due to the number of Shooters we typically have, Shooters may not run through the Classifier more than once. However, under IDPA?s current rules, a Shooter may have one Classifier match count towards multiple divisions, as long as the equipment and ammo used is legal in all of the divisions the Shooter wants the results to count for. As an example, A Shooter could duse a Glock 21, chambered in .45ACP, and have the results count for SSP, ESP, and CDP. If the Shooter had a 1911 chambered in .45 ACP, the results could only count for ESP and CDP, as single-action semi-autos such as 1911?s are not legal for SSP. On the revolver side, a Shooter would have to use an SSR-legal revolver with ammunition that made a power factor of 165 in order for the Classifier to count for both SSR and ESR, as ESR requires the higher power factor. If you plan on having the Classifier count towards multiple divisions, please make sure to check with the Match Director to confirm that your equipment and ammunition are legal for all the divisions you?ve chosen, and make sure to mark all of your selected divisions on your score sheet. COURSES OF FIRE This month features an IDPA Classifier match. A Classifier match is a standard course of fire requiring 90 rounds. A concealment garment is NOT required. Feel free to review the Classifier stages in the IDPA Rulebook. The Classifier results will be submitted to IDPA headquarters. Match fee is $15 for Racine IDPA members, $20 for all non-members. Safety Officers pay $10. NEW SHOOTERS If you are new to IDPA, we ask that you do not gear up until we meet to discuss basic IDPA safety and competition rules. As a reminder, we run a “cold range”- no firearms are to be loaded except under the command of a Safety Officer when it’s your turn to shoot a stage. Handguns can only be handled at the Safety Table or under the direction of an S.O. Also, there is NO handling of ammunition or ammunition carriers (mags, speedloaders, etc.) at the safety table. Failure to abide by these rules will result in a match disqualification. Please feel free to ask a Safety Officer or the Match Director if you have any questions regarding our safety rules. SAFETY OFFICERS We plan on 2 squads, and we need at least 4 people to step forward. If you can SO please email me at idpa_tom@comcast.net or Patrick Scalise at ptscalise@policeone.com and/or post to the match event in the club’s Facebook group. MATCH DIRECTOR Patrick Scalise will be the Match Director at this match. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE With the success of last season’s change to running two matches a month while indoors, we’re continuing that format with this year’s indoor matches. Please remember, the primary purpose of this is to keep the attendance at a reasonable number so that all of us can leave the range at a decent time. Shooters may only attend one match each month unless they are acting as a Safety Officer at both matches. Remember, helping with the match will earn entries towards whatever prize guns the club gives away in December 2014. Registration, set up / teardown, S.O.-ing, etc., all count towards earning entries. The current club raffle is for a SiRT Training pistol. We will sell a total of 54 tickets for this raffle, with prices of $10 each or 3/$25. We’ll hold the drawing as soon as all the tickets are sold. If anyone has any suggestions for stages, please send them my way. I’m always interested in other peoples’ stage design, and while I can’t guarantee they’ll get used at any particular match, the odds are good that they’ll get used eventually. Please keep in mind that the designs may be modified to keep them IDPA-legal or to fit the range the match is held at. Come ready to shoot and have some fun. See you on Saturday. Tom Ropers, Club President Please email us if you have any questions. www.racineidpa.com IDPA_Tom@comcast.net
